Amie & James’ Wedding at St Matthews Church & Les Pitons, Guernsey

Last year I had the chance to photograph Amie’s sister’s wedding, so coming back to the same garden for Amie and James felt a bit like catching up with old friends. The setting might have been familiar, but the day had its own energy, and that’s what I enjoy most about Guernsey wedding photography.

The morning started with a lovely calm at Les Pitons. Hair was styled by House of Hair, makeup by Shanine Levrier, and the bridesmaids kept things light-hearted, hanging out in matching pyjamas before slipping into dresses. At one point a butterfly landed on the flowers by Simply Bespoke and stuck around long enough to get photographed like it had been hired for the job. Over at the Peninsula, James and the groomsmen were in good spirits, sharing breakfast and jokes before heading off in a vintage coach.

The ceremony at St Matthews Church was beautifully traditional, with a big confetti moment afterwards and plenty of smiles as the guests climbed aboard the Petit Train to head back to the garden for the reception.

The clear marquee at Les Pitons was a photographer’s dream, all the light of the day, none of the wind. It was full of thoughtful details thanks to Bonita Events, with flowers by Simply Bespoke making the space feel fresh and colourful. Guests were welcomed with music from Cecily Beer on the harp while enjoying drinks from Ben’s Bar and food from Farmhouse Outside Catering.

Entertainment was a big part of the day. They had lawn games like mini golf and connect four, but also one of the most creative wedding ideas I’ve seen: a giant DIY game of Guess Who featuring all the guests. It was hilarious and a great way for people to mingle. Alongside that, there was a gallery of family photos lining the garden fence — a simple touch that gave everyone something to stop and look at.

In the evening, Tobias de Kretser played a set that had everyone singing along. At one point, he broke a guitar string mid-song, restrung it, and carried on without missing a beat, the kind of thing that makes a performance unforgettable. Later, Dani Aguiar’s cake made an appearance, and when everyone was ready for a refuel, pizza arrived right on time to keep the party going.

For me, what stood out most was the thought and care that went into every part of the day. It never felt over the top — just warm, fun, and full of the people Amie and James care about. And after already documenting Kirst and Liam’s wedding in the same garden, it was really special to see how the family made the space feel so different this time around.
