ELLIOTT MARIESS
Hello! I'm Elliott Mariess - a multi-faceted creative professional with nearly 15 years of experience at the Specsavers creative agency. My skills span a diverse range of fields, from graphic design to cinematography, rooted in the philosophy of transforming complex problems into concept-led, simple, practical, and aesthetically pleasing solutions. I've developed a particular affinity for fashion and music, leading to successful collaborations with brands like Guernsey Woollens, Black Sheep, and Supply Route and capturing the occasional summer wedding.
Over the past five years, I've been leading the photographic branding style for Specsavers, this has led to working alongside and directing Vogue photographers Rankin and Nicholas Javed, and capturing celebrities such as Gary Barlow, Gok Wan, Darren Kennedy. My work's impact has been recognized with awards including the D&AD New Blood award in 2009 and a Gold at the Cream Awards in 2013 for an outstanding direct mail campaign and has been published by Gestalten books in 2011 and my photography has been featured in articles for the independent.
Off-duty, I'm the founder of Guernsey Gigs, a vibrant local music platform encompassing a website, YouTube channel, and podcast. You'll often find me performing with bands like The Bare Minimum, Brunt, Kiya Ashton , Grace and Elliott and Dead Wing.
My passion for music has led me to be heavily involved in many creative projects, including music videos for Nessi Gomes, Robyn Sherwell, It’s Own animal and Joe Corbyn among others. Many of these videos have amassed significant views, with one even being featured on BBC Radio 1. I have also recorded, produced, and designed albums for local bands such as Twelve Ton Trouble, Lord vapour, Tantale, The Cor Damme Lars, A Band Of Squirrels and Grace and Elliott.
I also lead a large ongoing team project “Finding the beauty in illness” This six-month-long photographic journey through a breast cancer battle resonated deeply with the local community, touching many with its heartfelt representation of cancer patients. The project was exhibited both locally and soon to be shown in the UK, and was also self-published in a commemorative book.
When in my downtime, I'm likely in my homemade darkroom, indulging my love for film photography. I even share this passion by teaching photography and media studies at the local Grammar school regularly. I also run a community design blog with over 160,000 subscribers.
As a lifelong learner, I'm always pushing my boundaries, continually developing and applying new skills. I'm Adobe certified in most of the Creative Suite applications, juggling an extensive list of programs daily, from graphic design and video editing applications to 3D modeling, and even creating Instagram filters.
That's a snapshot of my creative journey thus far. I hope it gives you a glimpse into my world and the passion I bring to my work.
