Photographing My Bandmate and Co-worker’s Guernsey Wedding

There’s a particular magic in photographing a friend’s wedding—a blend of joy, responsibility, and the delightful chaos of knowing the people behind the fancy clothes and heartfelt vows. When my bandmate Gregory Harrison (Greg to those who know him) and our colleague from Specsavers, Mimi, said they were engaged, I knew it would be an adventure worth remembering! As a gift to them, I offered my photography services, wanting to ensure every precious moment was beautifully documented.

Greg and Mimi’s love story is one for the ages—two creative souls, parents to a charming two-month-old baby, and partners in a life filled with music and art. They’d known each other for nearly 15 years, and their wedding was the perfect reason to bring family and friends together after too many gatherings filled with sad farewells.

The Ceremony: Love in the Air

The bells of Town Church rang out, welcoming guests to a ceremony that was as heartfelt as it was humorous. The Ukuladeez, Mimi’s bandmates, joined the choir in singing a hymn that added a touch of magic to the air. Capturing the teary eyes and beaming smiles felt less like work and more like a privilege. Many of Greg’s friends and family had traveled all the way from France to be there, adding to the significance of the occasion.

The Reception: Celebrations at St. James

After the ceremony, we moved to St. James for the reception. St. James was packed with elegant decor by Joni Free from Kooky Lifestyle which provided the perfect backdrop for a celebration that was both intimate and grand. The Non-alcoholic (and alcoholic) drinks flowed freely outside, a thoughtful touch from Joni, ensuring that even the designated drivers had something special to toast with.

James Ferguson, under his culinary banner 'Cooked,' served a feast that left everyone raving. As the evening continued, speeches filled the air with laughter and tears, with plenty of heartfelt words and humorous anecdotes.

When it came time for the cake cutting, the jam-themed masterpiece was unveiled. The Ukuladeez serenaded us with an impromptu rendition of “Jammy Hands,” making the moment even, sweeter. The evening guests started to arrive just in time for the real musical treat—Robert J. Hunter and his band took the stage. The full stage and amazing rig created an atmosphere that was electric, with soulful tunes that had everyone dancing the night away.

Moments to Remember

Photographing Greg and Mimi’s wedding was not just about capturing moments; it was about preserving memories for two people who have been a significant part of my life. Their trust in me to document their special day was a big honor.

Special thanks to all the suppliers who made the day as beautiful as it was:

  • Flowers: Jamblin Flower Farm

  • Catering: James Ferguson’s 'Cooked'

  • Decor and Drinks: Kooky Lifestyle (Joni Free)

    (I’m sure I missing a few here!)

Here’s to Greg and Mimi, two incredible people whose love story was a joy to capture through my lens. Cheers to a lifetime of happiness, music, and jammy hands!
